This is for and contest. God I hope I'm not too late! I only realized that the contest ended on the 1st only a few days ago. This was only half a sketch, as I had been thinking a long time for design. So half of his body design was rushed to make the deadline. I would have actually attempted a decent background as well, but again, not time because of my own stupidity. DX -- So the description I think it more important the the picture. First off, his body is made of earth and rock. Up near his head is charred stone where nothing will ever grow. His ears are actually flowers that, when open, allow the pollination of flowers across the earth. The branch protruding from his forehead bares one hanging flower, which represents the seasons. Each two pedals is one season, and when all the pedals fall off, it's winter. His horns are made of bronze, which act as solar panels. They absorb sunlight. His eyes are blue, because the inside of his rocky body holds water, and his eyes represent the amount of water inside. The way his eyes are now are very pale and icy, meaning his body is holding little water. His mane consists of hardy grass, the sort that grows at high altitudes and in mountainous areas. It will never get longer that what it is now because of where it grows on his body. Following down his chest is charred as well, but it starts becoming more of earth (like after a brush fire, things start growing again.) His legs are obviously twisted branches with their roots and limbs twisting through his rocky torso. Moving back to his rump, rock is subtly replaced my a very simple moss, where little plants will grow occasionally. Because his back legs twist through the moss, his branches bare a few leaves. His back is always covered with plants. What you see growing there represents the abundance of fruit and other organic edibles that grow throughout the world. Because his body isn't holding much water at the moment, the plants are very sparse, which means a bad year for organic food. Normally his back would be filled out with all sorts of foliage, and the fruit trees would be large and hold much fruit. His tail, which doesn't look like much, it very important. It's actually a giant seed pod. He keeps the earth well planted with it. He doesn't look like much now, but that only means that the area he is currently in is not very fertile. (this would have made more sense if I had a background.) -- Well, that's my beastie in a wrap. I pretty much just went outside in my garden and sat there and started skteching up ideas. I have to think of a name for him. I guess he's sort of a giraffe, hound, wolf, hyena, deer..... thing? I really wish I had more time to work on him. He would have turned out much better. Perhaps he will be a new character and I will draw him again......
Very idea, I love his details! He and Eden will have to have a teat party sometime

That's so awesome, I've never seen a creature like that before! You're so good with colored pencils, the way you shade is amazing! I love the whole thing, but I especially love how his legs are drawn! Instant fav!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
